On December 22, 2024, an air crash claimed the lives of ten family members aboard a Piper PA-42-1000 Cheyenne 400 in Brazil. The aircraft, registered as PR-NDN, crashed shortly after takeoff.
The private aircraft departed from Canela, located in Southern Brazil, heading towards Jundiaí. Just minutes into the flight, the plane encountered difficulties, ultimately crashing in Gramado, approximately six miles from Canela. The tragedy escalated as the aircraft reportedly struck the chimney of a building before colliding with a mobile phone shop situated in a residential area.
All ten passengers onboard were killed, including the pilot and family members of Galeazzi & Associados’ CEO. Additionally, the impact caused significant damage on the ground, injuring around 17 people. Among the injured, two individuals remain in critical condition.
Victims of the Piper PA-42-1000 Cheyenne 400 Crash
One of the victims was Luiz Cláudio Galeazzi, the 61-year-old CEO of Galeazzi & Associados, who was reportedly piloting the aircraft. The crash also claimed the lives of Galeazzi’s wife, three daughters, and other relatives. In a heartfelt statement released on LinkedIn, Galeazzi & Associados expressed their profound grief:
“In this moment of immense pain, Galeazzi & Associados is deeply grateful for the expressions of solidarity and affection received from friends, colleagues and the community.”
Although the exact cause of the crash remains unknown, weather conditions at the time were described as unfavorable, potentially contributing to the accident. The Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA) is spearheading the investigation to determine the precise factors that led to the crash.
The tragedy has resonated across Brazil, prompting an outpouring of condolences and support. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva conveyed his sympathies through social media, stating,
“My condolences to the families of the victims of the plane crash in the center of Gramado, in Rio Grande do Sul. I hope that the injured have a speedy recovery. The Air Force is investigating the causes of the accident, and the federal government is at the disposal of the state government and local authorities to clarify the situation as soon as possible.”
