Republican lawmakers are proposing the renaming of Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to honor former and potentially future U.S. President Donald Trump.
The bill was introduced by Republican House Representative Guy Reschenthaler on March 29, 2024, and referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
The title of the bill is โto designate the Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia as the โDonald J. Trump International Airportโโ. It has little chance of being passed.
“In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of Presidentย Donald J. Trump. As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity and strength than hearing โWelcome to Trump International Airportโ as they land on American soil,โ
Reschenthaler told Fox News Digital.ย ย
According to the Guardian, the bill might still be brought to a vote in the House, despite its low chances of passing.
IAD was named after John Foster Dulles, the former Secretary of State who served under President Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953 to 1959.
Dulles International Airport was dedicated by President John F. Kennedy on November 17, 1962, and “Washington” was added to its name in 1984.
Washington National Airport (DCA) is named after former Republican President Ronald Reagan.
